The 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Ghana and Egypt has already gone down in history as one of the best matches witnessed at the Kumasi Sports Stadium. Few could have predicted the 6-1 final score but the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), headline sponsor of the Black Stars, made sure that they played their role almost to perfection. In September, following appeals from Kumasi fans to the Sports Minister Hon Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a giant screen was provided at the Jackson’s Park for the Ghana v Zambia World Cup qualifier. This time around, GNPC joined the partnership and once again broke new ground in their promise to deliver the passion of the nation to all Ghanaians. In an unprecedented move to fulfil their promise, GNPC rolled out giant screens at special viewing spots in the nation’s two major capitals. In Accra, the Osu Oxford Street was a carnival of red, gold and green as similar scenes were repeated at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi as well as Bantama High Street.GNPC could not have timed their move better with a series of well coordinated and structured events aimed at giving Ghanaian football fans who were unable to watch from the match venue, a stadium feel of the action.Events Manager Mr Fred Darko said the response was overwhelming. ”This has far exceeded our expectations and I think we may have to include other regional capitals in future” As expected, the atmosphere at each of the GNPC Fans Arenas was electrifying and highly entertaining. The CEO of GNPC had predicted before the match that fans would witness something special but even his high expectations were exceeded. ”Victory was never in doubt but I think the players showed that when properly motivated they can will offer their own special thank you to their loyal fans”Majority of supporters told *the* *Sports Brand* that they would never forget the experience they had at the GNPC Fans Arenas and pleaded for more of such wonderful gestures. Ofosu Bright a supporter who was one of the first to grab a seat at the Jubilee Park venue was delighted ” “I only used to hear negative thing about GNPC but I can now see that they genuinely think about us (the fans). It would be recalled that the much acclaimed *AFCON 2013 Fans Diaries *which followed the exploits of the Black Stars through the eyes of their fans and players was also sponsored by GNPC.Before the match, opinion was divided as to the wisdom of announcing a 50% increment on the winning bonus for the team. That division has dramatically changed with fans now applauding GNPC for the morale booster ahead of the crucial match. It is widely believed that the gesture also helped in producing the desired results, since the potential rewards Ghana will derive from FIFA upon making it to Brazil 2014 far outweighs the investment by GNPC. The partnership between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and GNPC ensured that the game on Tuesday 15 October 2013 was a special experience for millions before, during and after the match. With mega P.A Systems, beautiful crowds and top DJ’s to provide music, there was no shortage of excitement to stimulate and hype the crowds. The atmosphere at the GNPC Fans Arenas promises to be a hit any time the Black Stars are in action. The CEO of GNPC, Alex Mould has assured all stakeholders that the national petroleum body would continue to “fuel the passion of the nation and that includes making provision for the fans to experience their team the Black Stars”.

Hearing loss affects around one in six Irish adults, yet the main reason people cite for not having regular hearing tests is that they believed their hearing to be fine. In actual fact, hearing loss can be gradual, and many people may not notice they are struggling. Just under a third of people (32%) in Ulster say they would be less inclined to go to social events in fear they would not be able to hear people properly.Audiologist at Specsavers Letterkenny, Martina McNulty, stresses that the speed of deterioration and the effects can often be reduced with hearing protection and early intervention.‘Hearing aids work to enhance your existing hearing so early detection and intervention is crucial. Untreated hearing loss can have far-reaching implications beyond hearing and has been linked to feelings of depression, frustration and anxiety. Our representative from hearing aid brand Phonak will provide customers with professional audiology advice and can determine a suitable type of hearing aid based on their lifestyle and hearing needs.’Specsavers Letterkenny Audiologist Martina McNulty. Photo Clive WassonThe new Phonak Marvel Hearing Aids, which will be highlighted at the Hearcare Open Days, offer a multitude of benefits. The Bluetooth features mean it can connect directly to either iOS or Android smartphones or other Bluetooth enabled phones and be used for hands-free calls, for listening to TV, music, e-books, podcasts and so much more. Marvel Hearing Aids can distinguish between streamed speech and music signals for an optimised sound quality and are available with powerful rechargeable technology.Martina together with her professional hearing team will also be on hand at the Letterkenny Specsavers Hearcare Centre on Thursday, 8 August carrying out demonstrations using the latest technology in an effort to remove stigmas around the wearing of hearing aids.Martina continues: ‘Common misconceptions around hearing aids can discourage people from initially seeking treatment and wearing the devices. The truth is that modern hearing aids can be discreet, can improve both hearing loss and overall quality of life, but are also cost effective at Specsavers stores. We have an extensive range of hearing aids featuring the newest innovations, with highly trained hearing healthcare professionals that will help you pick the right device for you. With PRSI benefits, cost doesn’t need to be a major concern.’On a positive note, attitudes towards wearing hearing aids seems to be shifting, with (91%) of those surveyed in Ulster saying that they would prefer to wear them if it was recommended. Some 85% agree that hearing aids can drastically improve your standard of life. However, fears relating to appearance (33%), cost (62%) and how people believe they age you (31%) are among the biggest deterrents to wearing hearing aids. For anyone interested in visiting the Hearcare Open Day, drop by Specsavers Donegal Town, Letterkenny or Quayside Sligo on the following dates: Sligo Specsavers Hearcare Centre, Quayside Shopping Centre, 1st August 2019 starting 10am until 4pmDonegal Town Specsavers Hearcare Centre, The Diamond 2nd August 2019 10am to 4pmLetterkenny Specsavers Hearcare Centre, 64 Port Road 8th August 2019 10am to 4pmFor further information, contact Specsavers Letterkenny on 074 916 7040 or visit https://www.specsavers.ie/stores to find your nearest centre.Specsavers hosting Hearcare Open Day with free tests and advice this August was last modified: July 28th, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:audiologistHearcare CentreHearcare Open DayHearingSpecsavers

The majority of these late-season kings have already made their way up rivers like the Chetco, Smith, Mad, Van Duzen and Eel, but you can bet a few more spurts of fresh fish will push in between now and the new year. The season was a good one, especially on the quick-clearing Smith, which had more fishable days than all of the …

WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg man has won a $2-million lottery prize — five months after he won $1.5 million.Melhig Melhig, a double winner with a double name, says he’s amazed and happy by his good fortune. His first win came in April with a scratch ticket bought at a Winnipeg convenience store. The 28-year old African immigrant then moved his wife and children out of their small apartment and into a new home.Melhig continued to play the lottery and bought another scratch ticket from a Giant Tiger store in Winnipeg in August. He says he now plans to buy a business, such as a gas station or car wash, and go back to school.“I want to improve my English and communication. And I want to learn something useful, like carpentry,” he said in a press release.Western Canada Lottery Corporation says Melhig isn’t the first to win a second million-dollar lottery prize in the Manitoba.A woman who bought a ticket at her grandson’s hockey tournament in Winnipeg won $1 million in 2005, then claimed the same prize two years later after buying another ticket, again, at her grandson’s hockey tournament.
