Jamaica’s Transport Minister orders probe into fatal crash

first_imgA motor vehicle crash that claimed the lives of four persons in the central parish of St. Catherine, has prompted Transport Minister Mike Henry to order a probe into the incident. The accident took place in the central parish of St. Catherine on Friday, when two cars, travelling in opposite directions collided. The police have so far identified three of the deceased -Tameka Tomlinson, 27, Avia Simpson, 37 and Sanny Harvey.Six other people, including a policeman and a soldier were injured. In a release on Sunday, Henry said that based on information, both cars in which the men were travelling were operating as public passenger vehicles without the requisite road licences and insurance coverage. He says he will be sending a strong message to people who use their private motor vehicles illegally as public passenger vehicles.According to the Transport Minister, the practice will not be condoned as passengers must be protected against any injury that they may sustain in a crash.Preliminary reports indicate that speeding and overtaking were the major contributors to the crash. The Transport Minister has ordered the Road Safety Unit to conduct a detailed analysis of the black boxes of the two motor vehicles.last_img read more

Chris Paul leads LA Clippers to fourth consecutive win

first_img“He can say what he wants, but it just wasn’t a very good game for us,” said Zach LaVine, who was scoreless on 0-for-6 shooting. “Our offense was stagnant. We didn’t make a lot of shots. We weren’t physical and they were just playing better than us.” The Clippers squeezed the life out of the Wolves in the first half, shutting off the passing lanes, swatting away shots at the rim and allowing few clean looks from the perimeter. Ricky Rubio, LaVine and Gorgui Dieng combined to miss their first 15 shots, Wiggins started 2 for 7 and the Wolves shot just 27.3 percent and managed 34 points in the first 24 minutes. Towns was the only Wolves players to have any success. He hit his first three shots, including two 3s, but grew frustrated with Jordan’s physical brand of defense and picked up a technical foul with 4 minutes to play in the half. Mitchell sat his star rookie for the rest of the half to let him cool off. The Clippers never trailed in the game and led by as many as 33 early in the fourth quarter. J.J. Redick scored 17 points and DeAndre Jordan had 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocks as they gear up for Blake Griffin’s return on Sunday. The Clippers held Minnesota to 34.5 percent shooting and only turned the ball over seven times. “It’s been a tough season for all of us not knowing who is going to play on a nightly basis,” Paul said. “Finding our rhythm now and sitting these fourth quarters has been great.” Karl-Anthony Towns had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who have been humming along with one of the league’s best offenses since the All-Star break until they hit the Clippers wall. Andrew Wiggins had just seven points and six turnovers and left the game midway through the third quarter with a lacerated chin.Mitchell blasted the team in a 31-second rant after the game and left without taking questions. He called it the worst game of the season and said some on the 25-50 team believe they are further along than they really are. MINNEAPOLIS >> With a showdown with the Oklahoma City Thunder looming on Thursday, the Clippers didn’t want to mess around and expend too much energy against the Minnesota Timberwolves. That his young Timberwolves provided so little resistance to the Clippers’ get-in-and-get-out approach left coach Sam Mitchell fuming in the end.Chris Paul had 20 points, 16 assists and eight rebounds, and the Clippers bullied the Timberwolves in a 99-79 victory on Wednesday night. “He’s just an incredible player. He has a great feel for the game,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said of Paul, who sat the fourth quarter for the fourth straight game. “He knew, like in that third quarter, that we needed to stretch it a bit. I thought he was really pushing the guys offensively. He’s engaged.” center_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img read more

Doc Rivers considering all options to stop Russell Westbrook

first_imgLOS ANGELES >> Doc Rivers has admitted that when it comes to defensive plans for his team this season, it’s usually best to keep things simple. So, with the Thunder coming to town for a game on Monday night with the Clippers, the Clippers’ head coach disclosed a simple plan. The goal, it would seem, would be to keep Russell Westbrook from driving into the lane for easy shots at the rim.The remedy? Well, that’s been inspired by an unlikely source. “You know he’s coming at you,” Rivers said of Westbrook. “The one thing we have to do is build a wall.”And — wait for it — the Clippers are going to get Oklahoma City to pay for it!Rivers, not President-elect Donal Trump’s biggest fan, laughed at the notion of wall-building as soon as he said it.“I don’t even want to say that,” he said Saturday, the room roaring with laughter. “I didn’t even mean to say that.”A wall wouldn’t probably stop Westbrook, who is having one of the best seasons in recent NBA history. The Thunder’s runaway train of a point guard would probably just crash through it. Midway through the season, Westbrook is averaging 30.8 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.5 assists, as he tries to be the first player to average a triple-double since Oscar Robinson did it in 1962.“Westbrook is a force of nature,” Rivers said. “…He’s that good right now. You can’t invest all your time trying to stop him because you’re not (going to be able to).”If you don’t figure out a way to slow him down, you probably end up losing. In games where the Thunder outscore their opponent by 10 points or more with Westbrook on the court, they’re 18-0.But, this is as good as any time since the season’s first few weeks for the Clipper defense to get tested. In the six games since the start of 2017 — all Clipper wins — they’re leading the NBA by holding teams to a league-best 97.3 points per 100 possessions. “I thought we got too smart,” Rivers said, saying the Clipper coaching staff over-complicated the team’s defensive principles.“I thought it turned us into a thinking team,” Rivers said. “…I know you’re more athletic when you’re not thinking.”Quick shotsFan voting for the 2017 NBA All-Star Game closes on Monday, and for the second-straight year, the Clippers will likely be without a representative in the starting lineup. …The Thunder have lost five of their last six road games. …Outside of Blake Griffin and Brice Johnson, the Clippers don’t have anyone on their injury report.center_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img read more

‘Mini-skirt’ harassment condemned

first_img5 January 2012The government has condemned the incident in which a group of men harassed two teenagers near Johannesburg’s Noord Street Taxi Rank on Tuesday, apparently because one of them was wearing a mini-skirt.The Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities said in a statement on Wednesday that it was sad that there were individuals who still believed that they had the right to dictate to women what they could and could not wear.“Child and women abuse deny women and children their birth rights,” the department said. “It condemns them to a life of fear and prevents them from being productive members of society.“We must work tirelessly towards a day when all women can walk the streets of our cities without fear of being harassed, raped or assaulted. We must ensure that all women are able to walk every street without having to look behind them to see who is following them.”Women, Children and People with Disabilities Minister Lulu Xingwana reiterated her call to all South Africans to join the government in its efforts to rid society of the scourge of women and child abuse. The department said it was confident that no stone would be left unturned in finding the perpetrators of the crime, which was widely reported on in the country’s national newspapers.“The two teenagers who were humiliated and subjected to this barbaric act deserve nothing less.”The incident has also been condemned by Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele, who said the country’s taxi ranks were public spaces that were supposed to offer transport and other related services to all, without discrimination.“The taxi industry has in recent times moved to restore its image and position the sector as a formidable business concern determined to offer a safe and reliable service to the public,” Ndebele said.“We urge the leadership of the taxi industry to act against the alleged perpetrators as they seek to reverse the gains made to restore the confidence of the people in the industry.”Source: BuaNewslast_img read more

Discoball Lace Front Wig Grey Ombre Roots Synthetic Natural Straight Soft Hair : Tangles!

first_imgSummaryReviewer Nathalie DuboisReview Date2019-05-17 08:33:46Reviewed Item Discoball Lace Front Wig Grey Ombre Roots Synthetic Natural Straight Soft Hair for WomenRating 5.0 / 5  stars, based on  16  reviews Looks great for a storm costume. It’s a bit heavy and scratchy. I lasted 25mins before taking it off. Looks great but easily matted. This wig looks great and the hairline is so natural, i bought this for a wonderwoman cosplay and it’s the right colour, very dark brown. However i did need to thin the wig considerably or else it looked far too big at the top and sides and not as flat and curly as the picture suggests. I did this simply by getting small lower sections of hair and cutting them and this seemed to do the job. It came with two wig caps which is great and definitely feels nicer than a cheap synthetic wig. Would buy it again Looks great I love this wig, the quality is amazing. I bought the long grey ombré. Was firstly very disappointed to find that i did not receive any wig caps with the wig as it isn’t my first and the description says it comes with 2 caps. The hair is beautifully long and soft but tangles ridiculously easily but once washed and straightened looks more natural. Not the best parting but nothing that can’t be fixed. The hair has gotten very damaged in some places just from straightening and goes like an afro with heat. The colouring is stunning though. Very mixed feelings but overall a lot better than the photo gives off. Fabulous wig bought for use after chemo highly recommend. Nice thick wig but extremely prone to tangling which is unfortunate as the quality of hair etc is very good. Baylor Football: 400-Pound TE LaQuan McGowan Threw Out The 1st Pitch At Last Night’s Rangers Game

(Photo by Tom Pennington/Getty Images)Baylor’s 400-pound tight end LaQuan McGowan created quite a stir when he caught a touchdown in the team’s bowl game against Michigan State last season. He worked at tight end and H-back this spring, and judging by his first pitch effort at last night’s Texas Rangers’ game, he may want to see if Art Briles will let him throw a pass this fall.Mound presence?
